KWENA and COMPOSITE conductors can be welded using LECTROWELD exothermic
copper process for joining of cables. LECTROWELD can be used for joining both of these
cables to Copper conductors and Steel structures.
The LECTROWELD process generates high temperatures that melt the wires, resulting
in a fused joint. This high temperature will cause some melting of the tin and galvanising of
the wire strands.
To prevent corrosion and or any galvanic reaction in wet or buried Kwena cable, the joint
MUST be properly sealed.
After welding the joint must be Denso Paste/Denso Tape wrapped. Alternatively a bitumen
must be "worked" into the cable strands whilst the joint is still hot. Protective covering of the
surface strands of the cable only is not sufficient.
